Facebook moved quietly away with the 20% max text rule on Facebook Page Cover images as of July 1, 2013!  This is an important change for marketers as it gives much greater opportunity to use the Timeline Cover image for targeted marketing.

To read more detail on the change, see the post on TabSite’s blog here: Facebook Updates Page Guidelines for Cover Image.  TabSite was one of the first worldwide to see and report on this update.

As Marketers, we are always looking for ways to rise above the crowd.  It’s tough out there, and using your Timeline Cover Image to full advantage can make a difference!

A great way to increase engagement is to increase changing out your Facebook page Cover Photo.  A recent study by HubSpot showed that photos on Facebook pages received 53% more likes than the average post. In addition HubSpot found that photo posts attracted 104% more comments than the average post.

By changing your Cover image more often a page can:

  • Be found and seen in the News Feed.
  • Highlight offers that are current.
  • Educate fans on current news.
  • Keep things fresh, active, and spur interest in coming to your page.

It's time to rise above the crowd and use this change to your advantage!

Below are 8 ideas for your Facebook fan page Cover image:

  1. Showcase your brand and a different key product every 2 weeks.
  2. Include a Call-to-Action Message and arrow to the tab email list sign-up below your cover image.
  3. Highlight your next event information on the Cover image.
  4. Create a call to action page to download a free ebook or other resource.
  5. Make your brand human by showcasing your team members on the cover image.
  6. Push fans to your eCommerce sales tab by highlighting top product deals.
  7. Create a themed Cover image in keeping with the season or a holiday.
  8. Showcase a satisfied customer testimonial.
